Jared Allen Predicts Rodgers Will Follow Favre’s Legacy with the Vikings – Here’s Why

In a fascinating twist of NFL fate, Jared Allen, former Minnesota Vikings standout, envisions Aaron Rodgers following in the footsteps of Brett Favre, who famously made the leap from the Green Bay Packers to the Minnesota Vikings. On a recent episode of the Up and Adams Show, Allen shared his thoughts on how Rodgers could have a similar impact on the Vikings, should he make the move.

Allen, who once faced Favre as a rival before teaming up with him during the quarterback’s 2009 season with the Vikings, drew striking parallels between the two quarterbacks’ careers. He reflected on the initial skepticism surrounding Favre’s move to the Vikings, noting how many thought his best days were behind him after his time with the Jets. Yet, in 2009, Favre shocked the NFL world with a rejuvenated performance, leading the Vikings to a dominant season and a near Super Bowl appearance.

As Allen put it, “It’s creepy how it’s the same path, right? You know, Brett went to the Jets, everybody thought Brett was done. He came to us in ‘09 and he had fire, he was hungry. We went out and destroyed the North. I’m not opposed to that right.”

Allen’s confidence in Rodgers following a similar trajectory stems from his belief in head coach Kevin O’Connell’s ability to get the best out of his players. “You see what O’Connell is capable of, right? You see the weapons we have and I think O’Connell has a way of coaching people and getting the best out of them.” This indicates Allen’s optimism that Rodgers, much like Favre, could come to Minnesota with a renewed sense of purpose and drive.

However, Allen also raised a key question that would shape Rodgers’ potential future with the Vikings: “Where does Aaron’s head lie with that? Is he willing to come in and be a functional part of this organization?” Allen’s words highlight the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers’ mindset, particularly after his time with the New York Jets, where expectations were high, but the results were not.

Rodgers’ stint with the Jets was a mixed bag, marked by inconsistency and struggles that left the team with a disappointing 5-12 record in 2024. Despite solid individual stats — 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 18 games — the Jets failed to meet their playoff aspirations. Now, with his time in New York coming to a close, Rodgers faces a critical decision about where to continue his storied career. Could that place be Minnesota?

If Rodgers does follow Favre’s path to the Vikings, he would need to face a few challenges. The first is competing for the starting job, as the Vikings already have an established quarterback in Kirk Cousins, whose future with the team is uncertain. But with O’Connell’s coaching ability and the array of talented weapons at Rodgers’ disposal, the scenario is far from impossible.

Ultimately, whether or not Aaron Rodgers will join the Minnesota Vikings remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: if he does, he could very well become the next legendary quarterback to wear purple and gold, continuing the legacy of Brett Favre and adding another chapter to the Vikings’ storied history.
