Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson is making waves with his reaction to the Green Bay Packers’ reported proposal to ban the infamous “Tush Push.” This play, a signature move for the Eagles, has been incredibly effective in short-yardage situations, and the Packers seem to have had enough.
In a humorous response, Johnson shared the news on social media, posting a laughing face emoji. His reaction clearly shows that he’s not fazed by the Packers’ attempt to eliminate the play, and it highlights the intense competitive nature of the NFL. While the Packers are looking to tweak the rules, Johnson is having a good laugh at their expense.
The “Tush Push,” also known as the “Brotherly Shove,” is a tactic where the quarterback is pushed from behind by teammates to gain those crucial few yards, often securing a first down or touchdown. The play became a hallmark of the Eagles’ success, particularly during their Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Packers’ CEO Mark Murphy has spoken out against it, calling it a “lack of skill” move and an almost guaranteed first down on plays of one yard or less.
Murphy pointed to the NFC Championship Game, where the Washington Commanders struggled to stop the play, even resorting to repeatedly jumping offsides, which led referees to warn them about awarding the Eagles an automatic touchdown.
As it stands, the NFL’s competition committee will review the proposal, but for it to pass, it would require the approval of 24 out of 32 team owners. If it goes through, the Eagles might need to adapt their playbook for short-yardage situations, but for now, Johnson is enjoying the back-and-forth drama with a chuckle.
