Packers fans, it’s time to start planning your international travel – the Green Bay Packers are about to take their football talents overseas more often. In a surprising revelation, team CEO Mark Murphy confirmed that the Packers will be playing international games on a regular basis, with at least one such game scheduled every other year.
With the 2025 NFL season on the horizon, the Packers’ opponents have been confirmed, but the full schedule is still under wraps. What is known, however, is that the Packers will face nine road games and eight home games, adding more challenges to their already difficult NFC North slate.
But the big news comes not from the schedule, but from Murphy’s recent announcement about the Packers’ global ambitions. Green Bay, which has already ventured abroad to play the New York Giants in London in 2022 and the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo in 2024, will continue its international journey. Despite losses in both of those games, Murphy revealed that international play is now a major priority for the NFL, and the Packers will be a part of that movement.
“The reality regarding international games is that it is a huge priority for the league, and we need to get used to playing them. At minimum, we will be playing an international game every other year,” said Murphy in his column on Packers.com.
This statement marks a shift for the Packers, a team that historically hasn’t played internationally, except for the two recent games. The NFL requires teams to play an international game once every eight years, but Murphy’s commitment to more regular overseas appearances is a surprising and bold step for the team.
The 2025 season will feature eight international games across Europe, Mexico, and South America, with matchups in Spain, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. While it’s not yet confirmed which game the Packers will play abroad, speculation points to their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland, as the most likely candidate.
Fans should expect more international opportunities in the coming seasons, as Murphy’s vision to have the Packers playing overseas every other year takes flight. Whether it’s a trip to Europe, Mexico, or beyond, it’s clear that Packers fans will soon have even more opportunities to see their team in action… and this time, it might not be from the comfort of Lambeau Field.
So, get ready, Packers Nation – your next game might just be on another continent!
