The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UW-Green Bay) and the Packers Hall of Fame are joining forces to offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity for football fans to dive deep into the history of the Green Bay Packers and the NFL Draft. With Green Bay set to host the NFL Draft in late April, this collaboration aims to provide a unique learning experience that explores the evolution of the draft process and its significant impact on the Packers and the sport at large.
Three virtual classes will be held on Zoom from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 2, 9, and 16, offering fans an opportunity to learn from Brent Hensel, the Packers Hall of Fame curator. These sessions are designed to take participants on a journey through the draft’s origins, pivotal moments in Packers history, and the league’s development over time. And for those unable to attend the live sessions, recorded versions will be available, allowing participants to listen at their convenience.
The first class will take participants back to the early days of the NFL Draft, highlighting the origins of the draft process and examining the Packers’ first-ever draft pick. The second session will explore the rivalry between the NFL and AFL, focusing on how legendary coach Vince Lombardi leveraged the draft to lead the integration process, shaping the modern NFL. The final class will examine the Packers’ more recent draft strategies and their ongoing role in team building.
The registration for the course is available online at bit.ly/UWGB-Packers-Class, with a cost of $49 for all three sessions. This course is not just a chance to learn about the Packers’ draft history, but also a way for fans to engage with the team’s legacy and the larger history of the NFL as a whole.
