The Green Bay Packers have made a significant move in free agency, securing former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs on a multi-year deal. After a whirlwind start to the league year, the Packers wasted no time, agreeing to terms with Hobbs on a 4-year, $48 million contract that is set to strengthen their secondary.
NFL Insider Josina Anderson shared a direct conversation with Hobbs about his excitement for the new chapter. The 25-year-old, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Raiders in 2021, expressed his eagerness to join the NFC North team and take on a new challenge.
“I’m ecstatic. It has not sunk in yet. I’m still dumbfounded by the opportunity, and I am ready to get to work. Being with the Raiders in that division and facing those quarterbacks, I feel like I’m ready for anything (in the NFC North) and I am going in with a lot of confidence. It prepared me for this,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs’ contract includes a $16 million signing bonus, with the chance to make up to $51 million through performance-based incentives. With an estimated $6.2 million cap hit in 2025, Hobbs’ deal accounts for 2.2% of the Packers’ cap space, according to Spotrac.
Hobbs reunites with familiar faces in Green Bay, including cornerback Keisean Nixon, running back Josh Jacobs, and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. All three were part of the Raiders organization when Hobbs was drafted, providing him with a sense of camaraderie as he transitions to his new team.
For the Packers, this move represents a valuable addition to their defense, as Hobbs’ experience in a competitive division facing top-tier quarterbacks will help elevate their defensive unit. With confidence on his side, Hobbs is ready to make a lasting impact in Green Bay.
As Hobbs begins this exciting new chapter, fans can expect his energy and commitment to make a big difference for the Packers in the seasons to come.
